Beverly Family Shares Story of Police Officer's Suicide
An Ontario Provincial Police force officer who recently died by suicide is being remembered by their colleagues, and it comes months afterward the provincial government launched an contained review into workplace civilisation at the service.
When asked almost the officeholder's death following a report in The Toronto Lord's day, OPP Staff Sgt. Carolle Dionne issued a brief statement.
"The OPP offers our sincere condolences to the immediate family and OPP members on the death of i of our officers," Dionne told Global News.
"Information technology is a very lamentable time for family, friends and OPP members. Nosotros wish to respect the family unit's privacy every bit they grieve."
Dionne didn't identify the officeholder or where they were assigned to.
Rob Jamieson, president and CEO of the Ontario Provincial Police Association, retweeted a condolence bulletin past OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique and thanked people for support.
"Nosotros are truly saddened and heartbroken that our OPP family has lost another member," Jamieson wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.
"We would similar to extend our condolences to the family unit, friends, and colleagues who are grieving this tremendous loss."
The Ontario regime announced the creation of the workplace review in April later on more than 12 officers died past suicide since 2012.
Premier Doug Ford tweeted out a bulletin of support Tuesday evening.
"My heart goes out the loved ones of the deceased officeholder besides every bit the wider OPP family unit," he wrote.
"Our officers put their lives on the line every unmarried twenty-four hour period to protect and keep our communities safety and we must continue to make sure they get the support they need in render."
Ontario'due south Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, who is responsible for law enforcement services in the province, said "we express our sincere condolences to those who are personally grieving the tragic loss of an OPP officer."
"The mental health and overall well-being of Ontario's everyday heroes in our police force services is a central priority for our government," Jones said.
"The panel reviewing the OPP's workplace civilization continues to practice their of import work. Nosotros are providing the panel with the fourth dimension needed to carefully accomplish this review. We look forward to receiving the panel's advice and recommendations when the review is consummate," Jones added.
